Fascial Stretch Therapy™ (FST™)

FST™ is a passive stretching technique done to target fascia and joints with the ultimate goal of reducing fascial adhesions and relaxing the nervous system. Our Etobicoke RMTs are certified in Fascial Stretch Therapy ™. It is covered by most extended health benefit plans under massage therapy.

We offer direct billing at 416 Physio. It is a myth that they only treat the spine! Chiropractors can treat all body parts that may be injured or suffering from pain. Whether you have neck or knee pain or need a tune-up before a race, we’ve got your back.

  • Fascia is a thin sheath of fibrous connective tissue that covers muscles and other organs.

  • At your first fascial stretch therapy appointment, a brief assessment will be done to determine the area of the body that needs the most attention. From there, the practitioner will explain how the session will run based on the findings from the assessment. You will remain fully clothed throughout the treatment and the practitioner will use a variety of gentle techniques to mobilize and stretch your fascia. This may include; assisted stretching, traction, and mobilization techniques using a belt. Open communication is encouraged throughout the session to ensure that you receive the maximum benefit from the FST treatment.

  • Be comfortable! Clothing that you can move around in is the best i.e. leggings, T-shirt, shorts, etc.

  • You can definitely work out prior to the session. Depending on what activity you will partake in, the practitioner will provide recommendations of what you can do after a FST session.

  • FST should not be painful. You may feel a deep release/stretch but no pain. The practitioner will be checking in throughout the session to make sure you are comfortable and pain free.

  • Both treatment modalities achieve similar results in different ways. Massage is slightly more specific as it targets particular muscle groups to create changes in range of motion, support joint health and relax the nervous system. FST is more holistic in a sense that it targets tissues within the same fascial line, which can span the entire length of the body.

  • Someone should book an FST appointment/assessment if they’ve had a few massage treatments but are still experiencing widespread tension. This would most likely conclude that a more holistic approach would be more beneficial to address the patient's concerns.
